We’re beyond thrilled to announce that No.1 St Michael’s, Manchester’s newest and most forward-thinking flexible workspace, is now officially complete. What began as a series of beautiful CGI renders, carefully crafted by the design team at Ekho Studio, has now become a stunning reality. And we’re so proud that Buchanan Art has played a part in bringing that vision to life through original, contemporary artwork.

At the heart of the space now hang three bold, expressive pieces by artist Mark Millsted, each one created specifically for this project, and now taking pride of place in their new home.

These artworks aren’t just decorative touches. They are integral to the identity and atmosphere of the space, connecting seamlessly with the interior design, enriching the energy of the environment, and helping shape a workplace that feels inspiring, dynamic, and human.

From CGI to reality

When projects like this begin, it often starts with a vision, expressed through mood boards, materials, and CGI visuals. These images are a vital part of the design process: they help communicate the tone, the texture, and the intended feel of the finished environment. In this case, the design team at Ekho Studio created a visual story that was both aspirational and grounded – a modern, sustainable space that balances bold design with calm, confident sophistication.

Our role at Buchanan Art was to translate that vision into real, physical artworks that could inhabit the space with meaning and purpose. This is where Mark Millsted’s work truly shines.

Art That Belongs and Transforms

Mark approached this commission with a deep sensitivity to the space. Each piece was created with colour, scale, and movement in mind, ensuring that the artwork not only complements the decor, but actively contributes to the atmosphere. From the beginning, it was essential that the pieces feel like they belong, not as an afterthought, but as a curated and intentional part of the environment.

Mark’s bold and expressive style brings a palpable sense of energy to the space. His process-led approach embraces experimentation and spontaneity, perfect for a space like Gilbanks at No.1 St Michael’s, which champions innovation, flexibility, and future-focused design.

We couldn’t be happier with how the pieces look in situ. They feel alive in the space, engaging, grounding, and elevating the working environment.

What’s Next?

Projects like No.1 St Michael’s remind us why we love what we do. Collaborating with brilliant clients, talented artists, and visionary designers is a privilege and seeing it all come together is the ultimate reward.

We’re already working on our next project and can’t wait to share more before the year is out. Until then, we’re proud to have played a part in shaping one of Manchester’s most exciting new workspaces and thrilled to see Mark’s artwork take its rightful place.

Stay tuned for more art, more spaces, and more stories coming soon.
