MEET

Mark Milsted

Millsted’s creative path has been shaped by trial, error, and a drive to solve visual puzzles—revisiting recurring thoughts, emotions, and ideas along the way.

Though he doesn’t follow a strict manifesto or align with the overtly political stance often seen in contemporary art, his work is grounded in the present. It reflects a modern condition, engaging with social issues that resonate with his personal experience.

Materials matter, but it's the process—pushing it to either resolution or failure—that fuels his artistic exploration. Drawing remains a cornerstone, guiding the work toward a cohesive vision.

Rooted in abstract expressionism, his art has evolved with the introduction of representational elements. He refers to these pieces as New Symbolist paintings, drawing inspiration from Redon and late 19th-century artists who delved into dreams and the subconscious.
